Achievers’ Mentality

In this day and age, people are intrigued by whether achievers are faced with the same obstacles and turmoil in their journey. They wonder that if they really do, then how they deal with them.

First and foremost, the problem lies in expectations that outweigh efforts. When they aren’t fulfilled, one may tout the result as bad and feel low, sad and even angry. This phenomenon is very natural to human nature.

However, when non achievers are faced with this, they either ruminate over the bad results for prolonged periods or resort to what we call ‘The Escapist Mechanism’. If we ask them about who was responsible for their success in grade 10 or 12, then they’d happily call it a product of their efforts. Whereas, when they don’t secure desired marks in qualifying exams, the label the exam as tough, the marking strict and even go on to blame others for distracting them.

Another deterring factor is one’s choice of not getting up upon stumbling and falling. When one starts to believe that their obstacles are bigger than their capabilities, then it is the beginning to an end. These 4 problems combined, lead the individual to a road that goes nowhere. Not only do they make success difficult, but very often: impossible.

Is it that achievers never face any problems? Is it that they always have things going for them? No, it isn’t so. They too have to face bad results and disappointments. If you take a look around you, you’d find plenty of people in various fields who’ve beat the odds to be where they’re at today. The only difference is the mindset.

Let’s take Mr. Amitabh Bachchan as an example. His baritone voice was rejected by All India Radio and more than 10 of his films flopped at the box office. When he founded his own company: Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited, it eventually had to face massive financial losses but he handled it with his head up. Another instance is of Mr. Steve Jobs, who was fired from the company he had founded, only to return and make Apple one of the biggest technological brands of the 21st century. Also, one of our finest presidents: Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, under the guidance of Prof. Satish Dhawan had miscalculated the extent of the fuel leak which sent the satellite into the Bay of Bengal instead of the orbit. Nevertheless, that didn’t deter him and the next time round, they launched it successfully.

These examples are a perfect representation of how achievers handle bad results. They follow simple strategies to encounter them. First, whenever they encounter a bad result, they take responsibility and hold themselves accountable. That helps them in identifying weaknesses and carving strategies to work upon them. If you fall, it’s not like you’ll stay there forever. When you were learning to ride your bicycle, you didn’t stay on the concrete when you fell, did you? Then why now? Whenever you get down, dust yourself and get up. Just Rabindranath Tagore said,” Jodi Tor Dak Shune Keu Na Ase Tobe Ekla Cholo Re.” i.e. “If no one responds to your call, then go your own way alone.”

Life is a bed of roses for no one. It’s a battlefield where strenuous efforts must be put in if one is wants to be victorious.

So friends, don’t get tired. Don’t stop. Don’t turn back. The only way if the one that goes forward.
